This weekend has been quite busy, after the gym Friday we went out to dinner downtown and then stopped by this little pub that has a bunch of micro-brew beers on tap. It really seemed like the kind of place we would have spent time at in Portland, the beer was good and the atmosphere was a good vibe... except that you can smoke in there... ugh. I hate it! I don't understand why people have to smoke inside, it is bad enough when I have to dodge people on the street to not get blasted with more toxins than I am already breathing in. Ruin everything, so we stayed for one pint and headed home.
Saturday, before the gym, we headed out to this place Nate found that sells all of Denmark's microbrews, as well as microbrews from elsewhere but he thought it would be fun to try some good Danish beer for a change (hopefully). Seriously he was like a kid in a candy store! I got a couple of bottles of wine that looked fun, but it was fun to watch him be so excited... He had to admire them all before they were put away ;-)
Yep that's the fur beast...
Courtney and John came over at night and we had some burritos and played some Carcassone. They are total addicts like we are now... We will see who we can bring into our web next. Maybe Carol ;-)
As it warms up overseas Nate and I decided it was time to go for a "hike" on this beautiful sunny Sunday. I am still not prepared for how bone chilling the wind can be when it feels very reasonable outside without it. Oh well, one of these days I will be prepared. We headed up out into a National Park area to see some ruins from an old castle and go for a little walk through the trees (there is truly no "hiking" in DK since it is so flat; and "woods" seems like an overstatement since it seems like all the ones we have seen are planted forests). It was a very nice little walk for a couple of hours, and the ruins were pretty.
But in all honesty what walking in the trees here does... it just makes me miss the Gorge and the actual "hikes" that you go on out into the real woods. Where you walk and just smell the earth, and the trees, and plants... and it just smells like you are out in the wild. You just don't smell that here. What smelled the most was when we went by the cut down trees and then it a little bit smelled like Christmas. I think my first hike when I get home will be up to Angel's Rest, or maybe Eagle Creek, or even the loop between Multnomah and Wahkeena falls... ahhh I miss that.
This summer when we go up into northern Scandinavia (high north in Sweden/Norway/Finland) we will be looking for this true outdoors we yearn for so much...
Amazing to me that there is still so much Ice in the water, it seems to have collected in this small bay. Fun to look at, it made me think of layers of shale rock.
Oh yea, fun in a boat ;-p
I even got Nate to play sailor! ;-)
Who doesn't love seeing a flock of swans!
And Nate's new look... The full beard finally came off yesterday, but I seem to still be tortured with fur face... hmm.
Well new goal is to try to go somewhere "outdoorsy" every weekend that is nice now, explore around a bit and maybe we will find something that actually feels wild and not humanly created. :-) Was still a good day though, nice to be out. Even though I did Plyometrics yesterday, and Nate had a leg day at the gym (squats, etc) so after 2 hours of just walking we were both feeling it. It is rough getting old, or being old and trying to get back into shape. Still have no idea how I am going to survive this half marathon in June. YIKES.
