Italy with my bosom buddy

Man it seems like ages ago since Jess and I were on our adventure... Bout time I wrote about it, in my defence Jess stole my memory card and I have only had it back since X-mas, and it is not nearly as fun to write when there are no pictures.  :-)

Jess flew over in September for a 2 week adventure extravaganza.  Starting point Rome! Thus far, Italy has taken my heart more than any other country has, and so it only makes sense that is where we started.  No time for jet-lag, right to it!  We started with the Roman Forum and Palatine Hill.  It was awesome to have someone to wander around with!  We leisurely meandered around in the sun trying to avoid all the people.

The start of our trek, view of the Coliseum over the excavation site of more ruins.  Every time I see the excavators I think of Theresa, and how much more she would understand of what they are doing  :-)  Would have to be pretty exciting to be unearthing ancient history.

Who wouldn't smile in this sun

Next adventure was on to the Coliseum, lovin' the sun.  Must strike a diva pose for a moment for some reason  ;-p

The architecture is to die for.

In the evening we did a night walk through Rome.  So beautiful, I still stand by the majesty of this huge bustling city.  It can cast a spell on you... The amazing food doesn't hurt either.

Next stop Sorrento, or jumping off point for Pompeii and the Amalfi Coast.  We stayed in an upscale Hostel, which was really more like a hotel.  Cute little town to be based in.  We spent one day just relaxing, sunbathing, swimming, reading, and wandering the town.

Our sun bathing haven.  We were a bit thrown off by the sun lizards who looked to spend their whole lives baking themselves in the sun.  Skin so tanned and abused by the sun that they looked like they were wearing whithered leather skins.  Great reminder for me to put on sunscreen frequently, as I love laying in the warm sun too  :-)

Loved this statue, head...
 to toe.... :-)

I love all the beautiful flowers growing up and over the walls all over in Italy.  Adds such a romantic touch to everything, so beautiful.

Our dinner spot.  Amazing place to eat delicious food and watch the sun set.

Sorrento Marina at night, above our dinner locale.

Next day we headed out to Pompei to bake in the heat while wandering around the ruins.  We took the train early to try to beat some of the crowds, and a bit of the heat. By the end of our trekking we were definitely overheated from our hours of wandering in the sun, managed to get lost in the winding street starting to be delirious. Still amazing day though, just had a lax evening after that adventure.  :-D

There were stone all over the roads which were to have stepping stones for the pedestrians, and were just the right width for the cars to still be able to pass.

These were like the cafes, food was stored in the hols in the counter, and then served.  Very pretty with all the colors on the counter top.  Wouldn't mind my counter in my home looking like that!

Jess outside of the small theatre.

And of course we had to visit the brothel. The small home had pictures painted on the wall to show a sort of menu.  What kind of service would you like to be provided?  And in each of the rooms was a large stone bed where the services would be provided.  They said the ideal woman was robust and pale, which contradicted the brown horny man. he he.

On our last full day in Rome we took a ferry around the Amalfi coast (Sorrento to Postiano to Amalfi).  Really fun afternoon!  I love the little boat rides along the coast in Italy.  Maybe not quite as tiny and cute as Cinque Terre, but very close.  Along this coast there were houses or resorts built into the side of the cliff everywhere which were just beautiful.  I would love to have one of those places, or just come and stay for a month and enjoy the climate and surroundings.  :-)

I still don't get this hat... but it does shield the sun from the fragile white skin. Now who's the diva?  ;-p

Bye bye Italy.  On to Greece....
