On to Greece

First time ever in Greece!!!  I was not disappointed!  Such a beautiful country. And besides ruining the feta by using sheep's milk instead of cow's... delicious food, and we know I am all about good food  :-)

We spent a couple days in Athens exploring around before taking off to the Islands... We stayed in wonderful Hotel Tony.  Anyone going to Athens I would recommend this place to them, I have never had such good service in my life. We got all kinds of good recommendations, and help calling places and doing things.  He even took us himself to a small local restaurant in a local area, which had the best food we had the whole trip.  So fun to be like a local momentarily!!

We love Tony!!

Our place was right next to the Acropolis so it was really easy to walk everywhere from right outside our door!  Of course main destination was the Acropolis, which again we went to early to beat a lot of the crowds.  Really is a breathtaking monument, I am still floored by how on earth they built all these things back in the day.  (I know, thousands and thousands of "workers", doing what they are made to do)

For a big city Athens really did not overwhelm me like some cities can sometimes do. It probably helped being so close to everything and really being able to walk and just leisurely explore on our own time schedule.
Just below the Acropolis is a large concert theatre, which wonderfully they still use for presentations today!  We tried to find a show to attend while we were there, but there wasn't one available.  Next time...

In the afternoon we wandered around the center and some of the other historic sites.
The archaeological dig under the museum was really cool.  You could actually see people under you working away.  Not sure how much I would like the job of working under the glass every day.

Snack time!!  Num num num num

sooooooo good... just looking at it makes me want another!

The next day we took a side trip out to Cape Sounion for a little out of city sight seeing.  The monument was like a little Acropolis.

Final dinner in Athens, off to Santorini next!

Santorini was all it was cracked up to be.  Amazingly beautiful, picturesque, heavenly.  We could have stayed there much longer I am sure.  I made Jess stay in her first real Hostel here.  First time she has had to share a room with strangers.  I think in the end it turned out ok, she was a bit skeptical at first.  :-)  If we were rich it would have been so much fun to stay in one of the amazing rooms which were overlooking the sea.  Quite a difference is price though.. maybe next time I will be able to hire a personal skipper and sail around the Green Islands for a few weeks, and have a different experience all together!   Either way, it was spectacular just being there.

We stayed in Oia on the north side of the island.  The town is picture perfect, and known for it's sunsets so a heard of people and boats in the sea stream in right before the sun is about to set.  Then after the sun is down the boats depart and the people thin out considerably.

Here are a few of my favorite pics, even though I have many more...

Watch out, the killer dog will keep the donkeys in line.

Awesome art!  I wish I had room to bring this guy home  :-)

There is that hat again  ;-p

Time to relax, read, and go for a little cool off swim!!

Jessie's 30th!!!  Birthday dinner by the sea!

Generally I would say we avoid anything with eyes... but we expanded our horizons on this trip  :-)

Next day we went on an adventure to the Volcano.  It was a hot trek!  Was fun to listen to our guide though, she was a local that grew up there and had been around for the past couple eruptions!

Our guide

We stopped by a spot in the sea warmed by the volcano.

Rooftop meal.

Our final day we took the bus to one of the beaches to relax and wind down from all of our fun and excitement over the past 2 weeks.  What a trip!  What a way to end such an amazing adventure...

I can't wait till next time!  As much fun as it is to travel and explore alone, it is really more fun to have a partner in crime.  :-)
